This fossil was collected in 1986.
Rock Type: Sandstone; fine-grained
Formation: Kanawha
Interval: Eagle seam
Age: Middle Pennsylvanian Period, approx. 312 million years.

Found in close association with sphenophyllum cuneifolium, specimen WV-57c.

Location: Nicholas County, West Virginia; Epling Enterprises Surface Mine; McKees Creek Road, Summersville.

 

This specimen came from the very top portion of the Calamite and clearly illustrates the upward-sweeping branch stems originate at the horizontal node line and are constricted at the base.
