Cordaites stem

 

The trunk of cordaites was generally smooth, but with subtle horizontal furrows. Part of the inner pith cavity vascular structure is visible at the bottom of this specimen. A closeup view of this part of the specimen is available.

Location: Nicholas County, West Virginia; Ramp Run Surface Mine #1, located about 12 miles north of Summersville, West Virginia. Turn west off route 19 north of Summersville on Spruce Run Road .
